Citizens' Cabinet

Because one of her highest priorities is strengthening the relationship between the District Attorney's Office and the community, Jan Scully established a Citizens' Cabinet, comprised of fifteen diverse community and business leaders.

Citizens' Cabinet members act as the district attorney's "eyes and ears" in the Sacramento community, and give Jan their perspectives on office policies, community interests and criminal justice issues. They also represent the district attorney at community forums and events. Members, who serve for renewable two-year terms, select the chairperson of the group. Don Burton was chair from 1996 until late 1997, and Dorothy Enomoto succeeded him and continues to hold the position.

The Cabinet meets with Ms. Scully once a month to:

  • Determine what the community considers important to make Sacramento a safer place to live, work and raise our children;
  • Determine what needs improvement, and what needs to be addressed first;
  • Develop a plan for working on the identified issues; and
  • Advise the district attorney on what her office can do to improve public safety and on how effective are these efforts to improve public safety.
